The deadline is fast approaching … have you entered the IAM RoadSmart competition to become the charity’s Younger Driver Ambassador yet?

The coveted internship runs from September 2017 to July 2018 and the job will be fully salaried and come with a company car. The ambassador will be traveling the country spreading the road safety message and the importance of training beyond the driving test; as well as connecting with younger drivers and riders to find out how they would respond best to safer driving and riding information.

Although the internship would suit someone on a gap year, that is not a prerequisite for the role.

In a promotion called Get In The Driving Seat, IAM RoadSmart is inviting applicants to submit a 500-word document explaining why they feel they should be the charity’s next Younger Driver Ambassador by 9 June. They have the option of also submitting a video of up to two minutes long to support their application.

Once applications have been received, they will be whittled down to a final shortlist.

Those finalists will be invited to IAM RoadSmart’s headquarters in Hertfordshire in early July where they will be asked to convince the judging panel of their capability for the role. The judging panel is:

Nigel Mansell CBE, IAM RoadSmart President, and 1992 Formula 1 World Champion

Sarah Sillars OBE, IAM RoadSmart Chief Executive Officer

James Evans, founder of First Car magazine

Shaun Cronin, former police officer and IAM RoadSmart Regional Service Delivery Team Manager

Eloise Peabody-Rolf, current IAM RoadSmart Younger Driver Ambassador

Sarah Sillars, IAM RoadSmart Chief Executive Officer, said: “This will be an exciting year for our new Younger Driver Ambassador – this person will be meeting people from all walks of life, challenging those in authority and hopefully opening the eyes of young people into the importance of advanced driving and riding.

“We truly believe this is an amazing opportunity for one young person, that will look great on the CV and open doors for the future.”

Anyone who would like to be considered for the Get In The Driving Seat competition should send their 500 word document by email to [email protected] by 9 June. Videos can also be sent to that address too. Alternatively submissions can be made by post to Get In The Driving Seat, c/o Rodney Kumar, Senior Communications Executive, IAM RoadSmart, 1 Albany Place, Hyde Way, Welwyn Garden City AL7 3BT.
