A business group in Bridgend is reaping the benefits of a cost-saving and award-winning vehicle, thanks to the town’s Mitsubishi dealership.

Bridgend Business Forum has been lent an Outlander PHEV by Nathaniel Cars for a year so that its 625 members can find out for themselves what a ‘no-brainer’ the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid really is.

Nathaniel Cars Managing Director Wayne Griffiths said: ‘The Outlander PHEV’s incredible statistics speak for themselves. It has an electric range of 32½ miles, emits just 44g of CO2 per kilometre and has an official combined fuel consumption figure of 148 miles per gallon. What’s more, no vehicle tax is payable plus it’s exempt from the London congestion charge.

‘It’s also eligible for the government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant, and with a Benefit In Kind rate of just five per cent it means a virtual pay rise of several thousand pounds a year for company car drivers. In addition, for business owners there are savings on National Insurance contributions, plus the Outlander PHEV qualifies for 100 per cent First Year Allowance against business profits.

‘All in all, this makes it a real no-brainer of a vehicle, and we’re extremely pleased to lend one to Bridgend Business Forum, as we are certain that the members will quickly see all the benefits of owning one.’

It was collected from the David Street showroom by forum chairwoman Alison Hoy, who was the first to drive it. She said: ‘This hybrid car is a real treat to drive and I would urge everyone to take a test drive. It is spacious, responsive and economical. I loved driving this electric hybrid and I believe that electric cars are the future. They are cool, smooth and, best of all, silent.’

The forum members can have the use of the plug-in hybrid for a set length of time and Richard Boydell from United Graphic Design, who was one of the first to snap up the offer of the loan, commented: ‘I loved the car. It was so comfy and easy to drive. I’d like to thank Nathaniel Cars so much for the loan of the PHEV and for their help, as it made a big difference to my week.’

Since its launch last year, the Outlander PHEV, which uses both electric and petrol power, has swiftly become the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid, with Mitsubishi Motors UK selling 10,000 of them by the end of March 2015.

Last year, the Outlander PHEV won Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle award as well as Business Car’s Best Green Development gong in its Techie Awards, while in May this year it was named Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours.
