Electric vehicle charging provider Pod Point has sparked a three-year preferred supplier deal with Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, importer of the UK’s bestselling plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Outlander PHEV.

Under the new partnership, Pod Point will install charging units for the car maker’s consumer and fleet customers in the UK. With more than 35,000 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs on the UK’s roads, and more than 100,000 sold in Europe, the Mitsubishi Outlander recorded the highest sales in Europe for any PHEV from 2015 to date. Added to its many achievements, it is also the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV, with cumulative sales of more than 140,000 worldwide[1].

Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point CEO and Founder, said: “Mitsubishi Motors has been instrumental in bringing plug-in hybrid vehicles to the mass market. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was significantly ahead of its time and really set the bar in terms of plug-in hybrid technology. It’s fantastic to be working with the manufacturer of Europe’s best selling PHEV and of course we’re further excited about future electrified vehicles that Mitsubishi will bring to market.”

Pod Point has installed more than 50,000 chargepoints for its home, workplace and destinations customers since its inception in 2009 and its Open Charge app has been downloaded by more than 40,000 drivers.  Its products range from homechargers to 150kW high power rapid chargers, while its team provides a range of services from initial consultation through to installation.

Dean Asplin, Product Planning Manager of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said: “The Pod Point team impressed us with their knowledge of the market, the quality of their products – including the capabilities of the Open Charge app – and their commitment to customer service. We’re looking forward to working with them.”

At the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, Mitsubishi Motors revealed its all electric e-EVOLUTION CONCEPT SUV, complete with high-capacity battery and designed to perform equally well both in the country and the city. It also debuted its 2019 Outlander PHEV at the show, which will be commercially available in Europe towards the end of this year. The 2019 Outlander features a complete overhaul of its powertrain and a 15 per cent increase in battery capacity.
