CitySprint calls out for more couriers ahead of festive rush

With recent news that the UK road haulage industry is estimated to be 40,000 drivers short and warning that shoppers could be left empty handed at Christmas due to a massive shortage of drivers,CitySprint have announced that it intends to take on more than 300 additional couriers in the run up to the festive season.

Last year was one of the busiest festive periods ever, with the distribution service making more than 500,000 deliveries during November and December. There was also an increase in consumer demand for last-minute deliveries, with orders peaking on 19th December – a day later than in 2012 – and remaining high right up to Christmas Eve.

Patrick Gallagher, CEO, CitySprint commented: “Online sales have been growing at breath-taking rates and we are anticipating record volumes this year. Whether it’s unprecedented consumer demands or spells of extreme weather, we’re pulling out all the stops to ensure we’re prepared for the festive season, and have been laying the groundwork with our retail customers for months.”

“Consumers expect deliveries to be flexible and adaptable to fit their busy schedules, which is why we offer a 24/7 delivery service every day of the year. The retail and distribution industries need to collaborate more than ever to ensure they offer consumers the right solutions this Christmas.”
