The H2Accelerate collaboration today announced Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM) as its newest member. Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility has been a pioneer in the European hydrogen trucking sector since the turn of the decade.
Hyundai has already taken significant steps to advance hydrogen mobility in Europe. The company joined the Global Hydrogen Mobility Alliance, an alliance of more than 30 CEOs from top global companies united in urging the European Union to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen mobility across the continent.
With its accession to H2Accelerate, Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility is now working with other major players to advocate for the scaled decarbonisation of Europe’s roads through hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). Industry experts agree that a joint battery-electric and hydrogen-powered solution is needed to achieve this objective, and Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility’s participation strengthens this message.
Existing H2Accelerate members – Daimler Truck, Iveco Group, Linde, Shell, TEAL Mobility, TotalEnergies, and Volvo Group – have collaborated since 2020 and look forward to joining forces with Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility to build the future hydrogen mobility ecosystem.
Hannah Bryson-Jones, Spokesperson for H2Accelerate, welcomed Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility to the collaboration: “Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility has been a long-standing innovator in the European hydrogen mobility sector. Building Europe’s first scaled hydrogen mobility ecosystem in Switzerland and Germany, Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility has demonstrated the power of combined government and industry action.
“With the right policies in place, industry can successfully decarbonise road mobility. We are excited to have Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility joining the collaboration and look forward to building momentum towards the scaled decarbonisation of Europe’s trucking ecosystem together.”
Charles Cambournac, Managing Director of Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility Germany GmbH, said: “Europe is a key sector for Hyundai and has the potential to develop the world’s leading market for zero-emission trucking. At Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, we have worked closely with our European customers to build a trucking technology for today and tomorrow – zero-emissions with a familiar high-quality performance and operational standard.
“Since 2020, we have supported the operation of Europe’s largest fleet of fuel cell trucks, driving more than 17,000,000 km. Customers are ready for zero-emission trucks, and we are ready to scale production to meet demand. With H2Accelerate, we will look to build the conditions to scale deployment across Europe.”
H2Accelerate is a collaboration agreement under which participants work together to:
- Seek public support to fund early pre-commercial projects to activate the market on the path towards mass-market roll-out;
- Communicate the technical and commercial viability of hydrogen-fuelled trucking at scale; and
- Hold discussions with policymakers and regulators to encourage policies supporting a sustainable and speedy activation of the zero-emissions long-haul trucking market.
