Commercial Fuel Solutions (CFS), the UK’s premier independent AdBlue supplier, is celebrating a significant milestone this week as the AdBlue industry marks its 20th anniversary. The company, which has been at the forefront of AdBlue retail for 18 years, has deep roots in the sector that stretch back to the very beginning of the technology’s introduction to the UK market.
Commercial Fuel Solutions’ connection to AdBlue predates the company’s own retail operations. Former CEO Robin Futcher was instrumental in producing the very first depot IBC dispensing systems for major logistics companies Next and DHL under Yara’s commission for the initial UK trials. This pioneering work helped establish the foundation for AdBlue’s introduction and evolution in the UK, positioning CFS at the heart of the industry’s development.
“Our team didn’t just witness the birth of AdBlue in the UK – we helped deliver it,” said Paul Norman, Commercial Director of Commercial Fuel Solutions. “From those early trials with industry giants like DHL to becoming the UK’s leading independent supplier supporting approximately 1 in 50 HGVs on British roads, our 18-year retail journey represents an unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in emissions reduction technology.”
Today, Commercial Fuel Solutions continues to lead the market through state-of-the-art handling solutions and innovative products. The company’s recent ground-level AdBlue filling solution for heavy plant vehicles demonstrates their commitment to solving real-world challenges for commercial vehicle operators.
CFS produces customised storage and dispensing tank systems for leading hauliers, maintaining long-standing partnerships with industry leaders such as DHL, who continue to rely on the company’s expertise and solutions.
Since AdBlue’s introduction, the technology has enabled Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce harmful NOx emissions in diesel engines. This breakthrough has transformed millions of commercial vehicles from significant polluters into cleaner, more efficient machines, supporting regulatory compliance with Euro 6 standards while delivering economic benefits through improved fuel efficiency.
Commercial Fuel Solutions’ expertise extends beyond retail and equipment supply. The company authored the Energy Institute’s industry-wide recognised document EI3426, the UK’s first AdBlue handling standard specifically for forecourts, establishing safety and handling protocols that have become industry best practice.
In line with evolving environmental consciousness, CFS’ parent company New Era Energy has introduced the BlueBox, an innovative lower-carbon packaging solution for AdBlue supply, representing the company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact across the entire supply chain while maintaining operational efficiency.
As the commercial vehicle industry continues its evolution toward cleaner technologies, Commercial Fuel Solutions remains at the forefront of innovation. While pioneering hydrogen integration and developing next-generation commercial refuelling solutions, AdBlue continues to be a cornerstone technology in the transition to
“When it comes to AdBlue solutions in the UK, CFS may have led the retail way for 18 years, but our team were there at the very beginning,” added Norman. “As we celebrate two decades of this game-changing technology, we’re not just looking back at our achievements – we’re driving forward with the same pioneering spirit that established AdBlue in the UK market.”
