CAPTURE: New Euro VI tippers for West Coast

West Coast Haulage have begun taking delivery of 16 Euro VI-compliant Volvo FMX 8×4 tippers.

The first Volvos the company have ever operated, all 16 were supplied by Truck and Bus Wales and West, Pontypridd, and will be maintained on a three-year Repair and Maintenance contract.

Set to be in service by July, all are powered by Volvo’s D13K-420, 13litre engine rated at 420hp, and boast VEB+ engine brake for maximum retardation.

The automated gearbox is the latest version of the I-Shift and features distribution and construction software.

Rear suspension is B-Ride High, and the vehicles will stay in service for between three and four years.

Pat Sexton, Director at West Coast Haulage, said: “The FMX is a proper muckaway truck.

“Ground clearance is very good from all angles, there’s a good bumper and we like the front towing eye, which is mounted direct to the front of the chassis frame.”
