Helping the people of Cheshire understand their responsibilities
Drivers in Cheshire are set to become among the most informed in the country about tyre safety issues following the county police force’s decision to become a supporter of TyreSafe. The move comes just months after Cheshire’s Fire and Rescue Service was presented with TyreSafe’s 2013 emergency services award for its work in raising awareness about tyre safety issues in the community.
“We are delighted to welcome Cheshire Police on board and look forward to developing some highly effective initiatives with them,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “With a number of major roads passing through the country, it’s important that local drivers properly understand their individual responsibilities about tyre care and take appropriate action. I’m sure that the assistance of the local police force will help this greatly.”
Cheshire police have joined a growing number of emergency services and other road safety professionals such as local councils who now support TyreSafe and provide an essential ingredient of the group’s campaigning activities. Previous work carried out by other police forces across the country include hosting shopping centre exhibitions, running supermarket car park tyre safety checks, conducting a tyre safety survey at Gatwick airport and even arranging high-profile branding on Eddie Stobart trucks.
Richard Hill, Inspector – Operational Roads Policing for Cheshire Police said, “Tyre safety is an essential part of vehicle safety and it is every driver’s responsibility to ensure their vehicle is maintained correctly. We are glad to work in partnership with TyreSafe and Cheshire Fire and Rescue in offering education and ultimately if necessary enforcement of legislation with regards to vehicle tyres.”
As part of their partnership with TyreSafe, Cheshire police will begin their tyre safety awareness activities during the busy summer holiday travelling period before fully supporting October’s tyre safety month.
