SmartWitness is celebrating after picking up new orders worth over £500,000 at the recent Commercial Vehicle show.

The company believe the key to the sales boom was the recognition by fleet managers to have in-cab cameras to protect their drivers from crash-for-cash fraudsters, a £1 billion-a-year fraud in the UK.

A recent Road Haulage Association survey found that 54% of its members have now fitted in-cab cameras with SmartWitness being the only RHA GOLD vehicle CCTV supplier.

SmartWitness has now launched the KP1 which can instantly transmit footage to insurers within 60seconds of an incident occurring.

Simon Marsh, Managing Director at SmartWitness, said: “We have a phenomenal response since the CV show and have noticed a sea-change in attitudes towards journey recorders from fleet managers.

“It is no longer a case of, ‘Can we afford to fit our fleet with the cameras?’ but more like, ‘How can we NOT afford to do without them?

“They were telling us that the cameras improve their drivers’ behaviour and reduce the number of incidents on the roads.

“Our clients are finding their insurance premiums are being reduced by 20% and their incident rates by half.
“Around 40% of all motor insurance are disputed, compared to just 2% of incidents captured on SmartWitness cameras.”

“We are at the forefront of this kind of technology, which makes SmartWitness an increasingly attractive option for our partners.

“The CV show was great showcase for our products and we are able to agree two new international telematics partnerships.”
