OVERHAUL: New Volvo FMs signal fleet replacement
Schmolz and Bickenbach have replaced their entire fleet with the addition of three new Euro VI 6×2 FM rigids.
Supplied by Hartshorne Group, the 26tonne GVW, Globetrotter-cabbed trucks were specified with Volvo’s 330hp 11litre engine.
Wheelbase is six metres and all are fitted with rear air suspension, with the trucks obtained alongside a five-year R&M contract based at Hartshorne’s Birmingham depot.
Clare Staffell, Managing Director of Schmolz and Bickenbach, said: “We were tendering to replace our fleet amongst several manufacturers, but it was Volvo and Hartshorne that came back with the most attractive offer.
“We’re very happy with the new trucks and the support being offered by Hartshorne.”
The new arrivals will be making deliveries of stainless steel product for the Birmingham-based company.
Ranging from the South Coast to the North East and from South Wales to East Anglia, the trucks will each cover up to 100,000km each year.
The trucks are fitted with 9.45metre-long, drop-sided platform bodies, custom-made for the company by Commercial Body Specialists, Stoke-on-Trent.
