REVEALED: New Mercedes C-Class

Mercedes-Benz have revealed the new C-Class.

The premium mid-range contender – Mercedes-Benz’s biggest-seller – will offer a fuel consumption boost of up to 20% on the outgoing model.

Higher, longer and wider, the C-Class boasts 480litres of boot space, weight savings of up to 100kg, new suspension and new assistance systems.

Three engine variants are available at the market launch – the C 220 BlueTEC diesel and the C 180 and C 200 petrols.

Most fleet-friendly is the 170hp 2.1litre diesel, which offers 70.6mpg, CO2 emissions of 103g/km and a 0-62mph time of 8.1seconds.

Soon after the launch, Mercedes-Benz will expand the range of engines to include a new 1.6litre diesel and advanced version of the 2.2litre four-cylinder diesel.

A 72.4mpg C 300 BlueTEC Hybrid is also on its way.

Professor Doctor Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management at Daimler AG, said: “Mercedes at its best – that’s the new C-Class, which sets new standards for the mid-range segment on many fronts.

“It is characterised by an emotional yet clear design which is continued in the high-quality and modern interior.

“Its efficient and high-performance engineering provides the basis for a high standard of driving enjoyment.”

The new C-Class will incorporate almost all of Mercedes-Benz’s new assistance systems with a host of enhanced functions.

These include ATTENTION ASSIST, COMAND system, Adaptive Brake Assist and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS.

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and integrated Stop Go Pilot, the BAS PLUS Brake Assist System and enhanced Active Lane Keeping Assist are optional.

Ola Kallenius, Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars, added: “The new C-Class embodies Mercedes-Benz’s claim “the best or nothing” in uncompromising style.

“This is immediately apparent when encountering our new saloon for the first time, as it creates the impression that one is sitting in a higher class of automobile.

“I am sure that our customers will be delighted by the high-class appeal and agility of the new C-Class.”

Full pricing and specification will be confirmed in due course.
