CHALLENGE: Day will look to boost fleet safety

Leading telematics provider Masternaut are hosting a Driver Challenge Day at Donington Park in a bid to improve safety within fleets.

Taking the place this Wednesday, the event – hosted alongside Balfour Beatty and O2 – will bring together around fifty of the UK’s top fleet and transport decision-makers.

Corporations including Network Rail, EDF, Romec and DHL will be represented, as attendees participate in a number of activities.

Such activities are designed to inspire thought about what can be done to improve driver safety and foster a culture of responsibility within businesses.

Steve Towe, European Managing Director of Masternaut, said: “With business drivers twice as likely to crash as private motorists, improving fleet safety is fundamental in reducing the untenable rate of work-related accidents.

“Last month, Masternaut was recognised for its work with Balfour Beatty Fleet Services, by the Brake Fleet Safety Awards 2013, and we’re proud to be working together through events such as this to bring safety to the top of the business agenda.

“We look forward to what promises to be an enjoyable and informative event.”

Masternaut will head-up a telematics-based event on the day, challenging delegates to navigate a circuit of the track in the safest possible manner.

Driving Mercedes Sprinter Vans fitted with Masternaut’s telematics solutions, attendees’ will be assessed in real-time for speeding, harsh braking and accelerating and idling time.

Scores will be compiled into a leaderboard in order to identify the safest driver.

Other activities taking place include ABS testing, parallel parking challenges, safety best-practice sharing and an interactive discussion on road risk led by Balfour Beatty’s Driver Risk Manager, Robert Lindsay.

The day will conclude with Masternaut and Balfour Beatty awarding one attendee the accolade of the Driver Challenge Champion.

Realised through better driving behaviour, Masternaut’s technology and Driver Behaviour Products are proven to be a powerful fleet management tool, reducing costs and lowering carbon footprint.

Masternaut were Highly Commended for their work with Balfour Beatty Fleet Services in June 2013 by road safety charity Brake.
