EXPENSIVE: Black cabs much pricier

Minicabs are now up to 145% cheaper than black cabs during peak times, new figures have revealed.

The statistics, released by Kabbee following Transport for London’s announcement of an impending black cab price rise of 0.7%, were based on ten comparative journeys across the capital.

A journey from Paddington to Heathrow T1 cost £23.50 in a minicab, with a black cab price of £57.40 – an astonishing 144% markup.

Even the most closely comparable journey, of Euston to Angel, cost 5% more in a black cab: £6.70 compared to £6.40.

Justin Peters, Founder and CEO of Kabbee, said: “With traffic in London moving no faster than it did in Victorian times, you’d expect that the ‘waiting fee’ that cabs charge for going lower than 10.4mph would be enough to cover the cost of their journey.

“Our app tells its 300,000 users how much they are saving compared to getting a black cab.

“This latest price hike will see minicabs become even more competitive on price, and with apps like ours, even more accessible too.”

  1. This article is utter nonsense. You can not get a minicab from paddington to heathrow for £23.50. If anyone did it at that price they would soon be out of business. Running a car has costs.
