ADVICE: GEM recommend ‘silver blanket’
GEM Motoring Assist are advising drivers to add a ‘silver blanket’ to their winter driving kit.
The recommendation comes ahead of the first snowfall of winter, which is predicted to hit this coming week.
David Williams MBE, CEO of GEM, said: “An emergency foil blanket is a simple item, takes very little space and is cheap and easy to find on the internet.
“But it could create a difference between life or death if trapped in your car due to severe weather.
“Whilst we recommend people do not drive in snowy conditions unless absolutely essential, if you do have to drive, make sure you are prepared.
“In the first instance, carry out checks on your car to reduce the risk of breakdown.
“But breakdowns are not the only concern.
Snow can simply and suddenly prevent you from continuing on your journey, and every year we read about hordes of motorists stranded on the road – often miles from civilisation.
“A foil blanket would be a very welcome item to have in your glove box in such a situation.”
