ECCO Safety launches VIZ™ Warning Light
Vehicle safety specialist ECCO Safety is expanding the role of vehicle lighting with a new solution that improves the visibility of both vehicles and the people working around them.
With more than 50 years’ experience in vehicle warning and safety technology, ECCO supplies warning lighting, reversing alarms, camera systems and related safety equipment. Its products serve commercial vehicle, construction, material handling and other specialist applications.
The ECCO ED3800 VIZ™ Series LED warning light was developed mainly for demanding off-road and industrial environments. It goes beyond conventional vehicle lighting by combining a high-intensity LED warning light with patented HINVII™ technology.
Conventional warning lights and flashing beacons alert people to the presence of a vehicle. VIZ™ does this too, but it also uses specialist HINVII™ illumination to enhance the fluorescent materials found on high-visibility clothing, traffic cones, signage and other safety equipment. According to ECCO, this makes workers and important visual safety cues more prominent. Operators can then identify people working nearby more easily, which improves awareness in busy or low-light environments.
Potentially a valuable safety tool
The light has potential applications in construction, mining, quarrying, agriculture and material handling. In each of these sectors, people and vehicles frequently operate in close proximity.
Thomas Miller, Global OE Sales Director at ECCO Safety, says: “Vehicle lighting has traditionally focused on making the vehicle visible and warning people that it is there. VIZ™ takes that concept further by helping to make the people and safety-critical objects around it more visible too.
“By putting people at the heart of vehicle safety, we believe this technology can provide operators with greater awareness of their working environment and add another layer of protection around vehicles and equipment.”
VIZ™ is designed to complement conventional warning lighting rather than replace it. It brings the established function of an LED warning light and specialist HINVII™ illumination together in a single unit. ECCO says the technology can be particularly valuable where darkness, poor weather, dust or other challenging conditions reduce visibility.
The launch reflects ECCO’s wider focus on innovation-led safety. The company uses new technologies to tackle the practical challenges that operators face in demanding working environments.
Thomas Miller adds: “VIZ™ is about pushing the boundaries of what vehicle lighting can do. Instead of simply making a vehicle brighter or more noticeable, we are using lighting technology to help operators see and recognise potential hazards around the vehicle more clearly.
