PREVIEW: RAC launch ‘revolutionary’ new service

The RAC will launch their ‘revolutionary’ new Truck Rescue and Repair service at the Commercial Vehicle Show.

A new breakdown and warranty product aimed at helping businesses plan and manage vehicle repair costs for HGV fleets, the service moves away from minimal breakdown membership and pay-on-use costs.

Instead, it utilises a ‘one annual payment per vehicle’ insurance model which could cover everything from breakdown attendance through to full repair costs.

RAC Truck Rescue and Repair consists of two products – RAC Truck Rescue and RAC Truck Warranty – which can be purchased together.

“RAC Truck Rescue and Repair was a logical progression as it gives owners greater flexibility to manage their all-important repair bills more effectively.”

Richard Fuller, RAC

The former entitles owners to four call-outs per year for each vehicle covered.

Under the cover, RAC will attend breakdowns and attempt a roadside repair; if this is not possible vehicles will be recovered to a garage.

It covers 3.5tonne to 44tonne trucks up to 20 years old that have fewer than 2.5million kilometres on the clock.

Meanwhile, owners who opt for RAC Truck Warranty can choose between a standard and premium product.

Warranty cover is not limited to repairs required following roadside breakdowns and is available for vehicles up to ten years of age with fewer than one million kilometres mileage.

The RAC Truck Standard Warranty limits repairs to major components and can be upgraded to Standard-plus which covers the same components for wear and tear issues.

Its Premium counterpart provides cover for all mechanical and electrical components.

It can also be enhanced to Premium-plus to give protection against wear and tear on the same parts.

Both can either be purchased on six-month or 12-month basis.

Richard Fuller, Commercial Vehicle Spokesman at the RAC, said: “The RAC has an exemplary track record in providing roadside assistance to large commercial vehicles over many years so the development of RAC Truck Rescue and Repair was a logical progression as it gives owners greater flexibility to manage their all-important repair bills more effectively.

“Any breakdown has the potential to impact performance and customer satisfaction negatively if delivery schedules are not kept, but the high costs that can be associated with getting vehicles repaired can be crippling and extremely damaging to a business’s bottom line.

“Our new truck rescue product not only provides the first class breakdown service the RAC has made its name from by attending more than 120,000 commercial vehicle breakdowns a year, but can be partnered with a best in-class warranty product, backed by a specialist insurer – ANV Syndicates Ltd, that can take the pain away from having to spend thousands of pounds unexpectedly just to get a vehicle back on the road again.”

This year’s CV Show takes place at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, between April 29 and May 1.

Last year’s event attracted more than 18,000 visitors, with even more expected this year.
