InstaVolt has opened its latest EV charging site close to junction 16 of the busy M4 motorway near Swindon.

Lydiard Fields has 12 ultra-rapid-charging bays, including six accessible bays, and easy access to a host of amenities for busy commuters and holidaymakers to rest, recharge and continue their journey feeling refreshed.

Adjacent to the site is a Subway, Costa Coffee, Greggs and a Londis convenience store, while the nearby business park has both a Hilton Hotel and a Premier Inn, both of which afford ample facilities for businesspeople and other busy road users.

The new charging site is situated just off junction 16 of the M4, one of Wiltshire’s busiest junctions, used by around 6,000 vehicles an hour at morning and evening peak times.

Lydiard Fields represents a significant investment and highlights InstaVolt’s commitment to expanding the UK’s charging infrastructure on the strategic road network.

Basingstoke-based InstaVolt is the UK’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging network and Chief Commercial Officer Simon Smith said: “With more than 1,200,000 fully electric cars on UK roads, Lydiard Fields is another strategic location for us. The area around Junction 16 of the M4 saw a multi-million pound upgrade in 2018 to allow it to cope with future traffic levels and cater for planned developments in the surrounding area, providing a boost to the economy of Swindon and Wiltshire.

“With traffic numbers set to rise more than 50 per cent over the coming years, it’s crucial that the growing numbers of EV drivers have access to a comprehensive ultra-rapid charging infrastructure that they can rely on.

“Now EV drivers on this busy route will be able to stop off, enjoy the convenience of contactless payment, and get a fast and reliable charge. And with access to a range of food and beverage facilities close by, they can enjoy a break and stretch their legs, recharge and be back on the road in no time.

“Delivering sites like Lydiard Fields is essential to improving the charging infrastructure across the country, bringing continued confidence not only to the sector as a whole but crucially to those motorists who are making the switch to a more sustainable and greener future by choosing to drive an EV.”

Lydiard Fields is now fully open and is part of InstaVolt’s new phase of growth to deliver on its commitment to install 11,000 ultra-rapid chargers in the UK and Ireland.
