Lightfoot, the new headline sponsor of Brake’s UK Fleet Champions Awards, says that there has never been a more important time to champion the causes of safety and decarbonisation.
Brake’s UK Fleet Champions Awards celebrate fleet organisations dedicated to reducing road injuries, preventing fatalities, and also reducing pollution caused by their vehicles.
While Brake has been at the forefront of road safety, the number of incidents on UK roads resulting in deaths and serious injuries is still far too high, Lightfoot believes, while the debate and confusion around decarbonisation and electric vehicles means some fleets are unsure what to do next.
As a result, says Paul Hollick, Managing Director at Lightfoot, the shortlisted fleets in road safety charity Brake’s UK Fleet Champions Awards can play a pivotal role in showing other businesses how to be safer and less polluting.
“It’s a great honour for Lightfoot to take up the headline sponsorship of the UK Fleet Champions Awards, because we are entering a period of time where more needs to be done,” said Hollick.
“The fleet industry has made great strides in reducing risk over the past two decades, but now we need to innovate and improve further still to finally crack the problem we’re seeing where the number of seriously injured on our roads is no longer falling significantly. We need to find ways to make that next leap forward in reducing crashes, and at Lightfoot we believe we have the answer with technology that manages and improves driving behaviour.
“At the same time, we need to decarbonise and reduce pollution faster and more quickly to improve air quality and combat climate change, as this is intrinsically a safety issue too, for all of us, not just road users. It doesn’t just mean only switching to electric, but also running existing ICE vehicles far more efficiently. There is still much work to do. Road safety and decarbonisation are linked, as our technology has shown: safer drivers often go hand-in-hand with a reduction in pollution.
“So it can be done, but for many fleets these are big, complex problems, and they need help. Brake’s UK Fleet Champions Awards provides them with real world examples of how to do it through the brilliant work being done by the shortlisted fleets and fleet managers, and that is hugely helpful in showing the way forward. It is why we felt it important to give our support as headline sponsor.”
The awards take place at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on 3 October, 2024, with the winners announced from a shortlist of 43 organisations and individuals in 12 categories.
Ross Moorlock, CEO of Brake, commented: “We’re excited to deliver another fantastic UK Fleet Champions Awards this year, celebrating safety in this sector and honouring those working hard to reduce road death, injury and pollution. Lightfoot has been a great supporter of our charity and of these awards, as well as a champion for road safety in this sector.”
