Scania trucks secure four more Euro NCAP five-star safety ratings
Four Scania trucks have achieved a five-star safety rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP’s Safer Trucks Programme, extending the manufacturer’s strong performance in the heavy truck safety assessments.
Joining Scania’s L-series and P-series trucks, which received Euro NCAP’s highest rating earlier this year, are R-series and G-series models in 4×2 tractor and 6×2 rigid configurations respectively.
The latest results highlight how Scania’s modular truck platform can deliver strong safety performance across different vehicle types and transport applications.
Lars Gustafsson, Head of Trucks at Scania CV AB, said: “Safety in long-haulage starts with supporting the driver. Visibility, comfort, driver assistance, and vehicle control all contribute to safer operations.
“The G-series and R-series show how Scania adapts these strengths to different transport assignments, while keeping the driver-environment familiar.”
The Scania R-series was recognised by Euro NCAP for its strong performance in the Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance evaluation tests.
Its performance was supported by optional camera monitoring systems designed to improve front corner vision. Euro NCAP assessors also highlighted the R-series’ broad range of crash avoidance technologies, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which is designed to help prevent collisions with other vehicles and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
The G-series also delivered a balanced safety performance, with Euro NCAP describing it as a safe all-rounder when specified with the appropriate safety equipment.
Its low cab, deep windows and low belt line help provide the driver with improved overall visibility in a variety of driving conditions, an important consideration for both urban and longer-distance operations.
Euro NCAP also awarded its City Safe Award to both the G-series and R-series. The award recognises features on heavy-duty vehicles designed to help prevent collisions and improve safety in urban environments.

The latest results underline Scania’s focus on safety across its truck range, particularly where G-series and R-series cabs are used. For operators, the approach combines a familiar driver environment with safety systems and cab specifications that can be matched to different operating requirements.
The results follow the four Scania trucks that gained five-star Euro NCAP status earlier this year. Two L-series trucks, in refuse truck and 4×2 rigid chassis configurations, and two P-series trucks, in 4×2 distribution and 6×2 utility forms, became the first Scania trucks to receive Euro NCAP’s highest rating.
The L-series 4×2 chassis was particularly praised by Euro NCAP testers for its exceptional direct vision and robust safety equipment, providing strong all-round protection when specified with the full range of available safety equipment.
With the additional G-series and R-series ratings, Scania now has a broader selection of trucks recognised with Euro NCAP’s highest safety rating, covering a wider range of transport applications.
