Samsara launches AI agents for fleet management and compliance
Samsara has launched a no-code artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed to help fleet and transport managers automate reporting, improve compliance and support drivers in real time.
Samsara Agent Studio allows customers to build bespoke AI agents using operational data from vehicles, equipment, workers and sites. The platform offers prebuilt agents alongside tools for creating custom chat and voice assistants tailored to individual business needs.
The launch comes as adoption of AI agents across Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform has increased sevenfold since June. Customers are expanding their use of AI beyond routine reporting and fuel savings to include compliance risk prediction, operational troubleshooting and direct communication with drivers.
Agent Studio is now available to all Samsara customers. The company says it is the first platform for physical operations to offer both prebuilt AI agents and a builder for custom chat and voice agents.
“AI is quickly adopted when it’s useful, and in physical operations that means an agent has to understand the operation and meet people where the work happens,” said Johan Land, Chief Product Officer at Samsara. “In the back office that might happen through chat. On the road, it happens through a phone call. That is what brings an agent to life in the real world.”
AI agents target fleet efficiency and compliance
Samsara says its platform draws on more than a decade of operational data. This includes vehicle locations, video footage, diagnostics, driver behaviour and environmental conditions.
That information helps AI agents identify problems and recommend action without requiring managers to spend hours analysing reports. While reporting remains a common starting point, businesses are increasingly using agents for more complex tasks.
Grand Isle Shipyard, for example, uses an agent to combine forms, inspection reports and asset data into monthly reports. The process takes about five minutes per division and has reduced report generation time by 99%. Samsara estimates this returns around $100,000 a year in specialist capacity to the business.
“We were spending more than six figures a year on reporting and data compilation, work that’s now fully automated,” said Derek Champagne, VP of Corporate Security, Asset Management & Housing at Grand Isle Shipyard.
“The real benefit isn’t just efficiency; it’s the ability to focus our people on solving bigger problems, driving innovation, and creating value that simply wasn’t possible before.”
Food distributor S. Bertram Foods uses an AI agent to monitor remaining stops, driving time and shift time. It flags potential drivers’ hours violations up to three hours before they occur, reducing weekly manual review time by 84%.
StreamTech Industrial has also deployed an agent to identify journeys where drivers have not logged in. The system helped reduce unassigned driving time by 500 hours over two months.
Meanwhile, a North American passenger transport provider uses AI to analyse vehicle idling. Its agent distinguishes wasted fuel caused by driver behaviour from idling linked to regeneration cycles, maintenance and weather conditions. This helps managers identify which vehicles need attention and why.
A major food distributor has also developed a Driver Wingman agent. It answers questions about parking, personal conveyance rules and fuel stops using company policies, giving new drivers access to guidance at any time.
Voice AI brings support directly to drivers
Voice is emerging as an important interface for AI in transport operations. Drivers need to keep their attention on the road, while utility crews and other frontline workers often operate away from screens and office systems.
Samsara Agent Studio allows businesses to build voice agents that make and receive phone calls. These agents can provide live operational information and company-specific guidance, extending support beyond normal office hours.
For example, when a truck enters an unfamiliar distribution centre or job site, a voice agent could call the driver automatically. It could explain which entrance to use, where to park, the site’s speed limit and any required safety equipment.
Drivers could then ask follow-up questions and receive answers based on company policies and live operational data. After the visit, the agent could capture details for managers to review. Samsara Assistant could also help identify patterns, including sites associated with lengthy vehicle dwell times.
Voice agents have already gained significant traction across the platform. Within four weeks of launch, voice interactions overtook chat and have remained ahead each week since. Around 75% of organisations using voice agents have increased their weekly usage since deployment began, with more than half at least doubling their usage.
“Start of Day Briefings help us get set for the shift, and two-way audio helps tackle drowsiness in the cab. It gives us the support we need in the moment to stay sharp, stay safe, and become better drivers,” said Tiny Kirby, a driver at Clyde Companies.
Samsara expands its AI capabilities
Samsara says its platform now collects more than 30 trillion data points annually from vehicles that travel across 99.9% of US roads. Its latest tools aim to turn this operational insight into practical action.
Samsara Assistant answers questions within the company’s dashboard and helps users act on the results. Prebuilt agents support common safety, maintenance and compliance tasks.
Agent Studio extends these capabilities by allowing customers to build their own chat and voice agents. This enables businesses to deliver AI-powered support directly to frontline workers, rather than relying solely on office-based dashboards.
Samsara MCP, another recently launched capability, connects live Samsara data to AI tools that customers already use, including Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot. It respects each customer’s existing permissions when sharing operational information.
Together, these tools give fleet managers and transport operators more ways to access information, identify risks and coordinate work across their operations.
“Every day, our customers make thousands of decisions that determine whether people get home safely, deliveries arrive on time, and essential services keep running,” said Brendan O’Driscoll, VP of Platform at Samsara.
“Our ambition is to make AI part of how that work gets done — anticipating what needs to happen and coordinating the people, equipment, and systems to act. That’s the future we’re building at Samsara.”
Samsara Agent Studio is now available to all customers, giving fleet and transport businesses another option for applying AI to everyday operational challenges.
