Believ takes over 110 public EV chargers in Brighton and Hove
Electric vehicle (EV) charge point operator (CPO) Believ has taken over more than 110 public chargers across over 30 locations in Brighton and Hove. The company is upgrading the technology wherever it is needed.
The network includes standard-plus 7-22kW chargers and rapid chargers of 50kW or more. Blink Charging previously operated them. The mix of speeds suits both long-stay parking and quick top-ups on the go. This helps residents, visitors and local businesses make the switch to electric vehicles.

Believ is also working with Brighton and Hove to install a further 210 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers. Deployment is already under way, and the company expects to finish by the end of 2028.
Why public charging matters in Brighton and Hove
Public charging is particularly important in the city because 54% of residents have no access to off-street parking. Without a driveway or garage, they cannot charge their vehicles privately at home. Believ aims to make charging more convenient for residents and visitors alike. Its sites include Elm Grove, London Road Car Park and King Alfred Car Park.
A more reliable charging experience
The project combines the migration of existing infrastructure with upgrades that improve reliability and make better use of public space. Believ has kept the existing standard-plus charging equipment, so the installed cabling and infrastructure stay in place.
At the rapid charging sites, the company is replacing equipment to meet public charging regulations and improve reliability. The new rapid charge points will offer more chargers with less infrastructure on the street. Believ expects to complete this work by the end of November 2026.
Showcasing Brighton’s charging network at the BYD launch
To mark the transition, Believ attended a BYD vehicle launch event in Brighton. Visitors previewed the BYD Shark and BYD Ti7, and Believ used the occasion to show how it is expanding public charging across the city.
A branded Believ demonstration charger stood at the dealership. It highlighted the convenience of the technology and the role that accessible public charging plays in the growing adoption of EVs.
Guy Bartlett, CEO at Believ, says Brighton and Hove is an important region for public EV charging: “With more than half of all households without access to off-street parking, public charging is vital to the region’s transition to EVs and delivering clean air for all.
“By retaining equipment where possible, upgrading rapid charging locations and working closely with the local authority, we’re taking a practical approach to delivering a reliable network for Brighton. Events like the BYD launch are also a great opportunity to connect with drivers, hear where they want to see more charging and help make the move to EVs accessible for all.”
What this means for drivers
Believ now manages the existing network, and hundreds more chargers are on the way. Drivers in Brighton and Hove can expect wider and more dependable access to public charging in the years ahead. For the many residents without a driveway, that access could make the move to an EV far more practical.
