StarterMotor, the charity aimed at inspiring young people to learn about classic cars, has partnered with Hagerty, the classic car insurer and market valuation experts as well as the Alvis Owner Club (AOC) and the Federation of British Historic Vehicles Club (FBHVC) to host the inaugural StarterMotor Driving Experience with Hagerty at the evocative Bicester Heritage site.

The Starter Motor Driving Experience with Hagerty includes a range of activities to educate and inspire including opportunities to experience a classic car on the move, providing a truly immersive experience.

The first event is being trialled in April, with the aim of creating a format that can be used at any location, anywhere in the world and can be easily scaled to suit demand.

The Starter Motor Driving Experience with Hagerty will welcome 20 children and young adults, aged between 12 and 17, to Bicester Heritage on Sunday 14th April. Each participant will have the chance to experience and drive a classic Alvis car first-hand, using the secure closed road circuit of Bicester Heritage, as well as learning valuable navigation skills as they head out onto public roads alongside a classic car expert. In the age of satellite navigation, the provided tulip map may be a challenge for many.

In addition to the driving elements, participants will also enjoy skills talks from businesses based at the Bicester Heritage site and participants will end the day with a rare passenger ride in a military tank.

For those lucky enough to attend, the event is free of charge to attend, thanks to the generosity of the Alvis Owners Club who have provided an Alvis TA14 for the event, the FBHVC, Bicester Heritage and Hagerty, all of who are donating their time, resources and vehicles.

Angus Forsyth, Hagerty’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to be involved with this new event and to be helping to protect the future interest in our industry. Classic cars provide enjoyment to millions around world, they ignite a passion in us and create a sense of belonging. As enthusiasts, collectors, owners and advocates of all matter of classic cars we get to enjoy classic cars on the road. Through the Starter Motor Driving experience, we can to pass on this enjoyment, inspire the next generation and in turn protect our automotive history. We would like to thank the AOC, the FBHVC and Bicester Heritage for their generous support and enthusiasm in making this happen.

A second event has been provisionally agreed to be held in conjunction with the British Motor Museum in Gaydon on Saturday 13th July.
