Fernwood Transport takes delivery of 12 Renault Trucks T480s

Fernwood Transport has taken delivery of 12 Renault Trucks T480s, supplied by RH Commercial Vehicles, as part of a strategic fleet renewal programme. The new vehicles replace older units, delivering improved efficiency and driver comfort across operations, and further strengthen a long-standing partnership built on trust, transparency and consistently high levels of service.

Founded in 1983, Fernwood Transport draws on over 50 years’ experience in the industry and is today a well-established operator within the UK’s stevedoring, solid fuel and bulk road haulage sectors. Specialising in the stevedoring, handling, storage, transportation and trading of all bulk commodities, the company’s operations demand a robust, reliable and efficient fleet that supports its sustainability ambitions.

Meeting Modern Performance and Safety Standards

With existing vehicles due for replacement, Fernwood Transport needed a fleet capable of meeting modern performance and safety expectations, including enhanced safety systems, improved driver comfort and onboard facilities, greater fuel efficiency, reduced operating costs, and dependable aftersales support.

RH Commercial Vehicles supplied 12 Renault Trucks T480s, carefully specified to support Fernwood’s operational requirements while delivering strong long-term value. The trucks were selected for their balance of performance, efficiency and driver-focused design.

Safety is a core strength of the Renault Trucks range, with a range of advanced systems fitted as standard, including emergency braking systems and electronic parking brakes with automatic parking for improved responsiveness and control. These features, along with others, help boost driver confidence and road performance.

Driver Comfort and Onboard Facilities

The cab has been designed to provide a practical and comfortable working environment for drivers. Onboard features include a “comfort” driver’s seat with ventilation and adjustable lumbar support, air conditioning for optimal climate control, a digital dashboard for clear, easy-to-read information, and electric sockets to power accessories such as microwaves or coffee machines. These features help reduce fatigue and improve the day-to-day driver experience, an increasingly important factor in driver retention.

The new trucks also deliver improved operational efficiency through Eco cruise control, which optimises fuel consumption, reducing running costs and environmental impact.

Charles Holehouse, MD, commented: “Continuously modernising our bulk tipper fleet is an essential part of Fernwood’s sustainability ambitions and targets. Electric vehicles do not yet meet the daily requirements of our operational needs. Therefore, running the most up-to-date, modern, and fuel-efficient Euro 6 diesel engines, fitted with AdBlue technology, allows Fernwood to operate the most sustainable diesel-powered truck available. This sustainability benefit can then be passed on to our customers.”

A Long-Standing Partnership

The relationship between RH Commercial Vehicles and Fernwood Transport is built on years of collaboration and mutual trust. RHCV prides itself on transparency throughout the procurement process, reliable service delivery from handshake to handover, and tailored solutions aligned to operational needs.

This latest delivery stands as a testament to the strength and longevity of the relationship, which will continue to drive forward long into the future.
