Electric vehicle charge point operator Allego has announced plans to invest €100 million in expanding its UK charging network by 2030, reinforcing confidence in the country’s fast-growing electric vehicle market.
Backed by long-term infrastructure investor Meridiam, the investment will fund the installation of up to 1,400 new ultra-fast charging points, positioning Allego among the UK’s largest ultra-fast charging providers as demand for public charging infrastructure continues to accelerate.
The expansion will focus on strategically important locations, including major motorway corridors, busy A-roads and densely populated urban centres, with London identified as a key priority. The programme is also expected to create jobs across Allego’s UK operations and supply chain, spanning site acquisition, construction, engineering, installation and ongoing network management.
Having entered the UK market in 2017, Allego believes Britain represents one of Europe’s most attractive opportunities for investment in EV charging. While electric vehicle adoption continues to gather pace, the company argues that charging infrastructure still lags behind demand and remains less developed than in several other European markets.
The investment forms part of Allego’s wider strategy to strengthen its presence in the UK and support the transition to zero-emission transport by delivering more reliable, high-powered public charging.

Steven Salo
Steven Salo, Executive Officer at Allego, said: “This €100 million commitment reflects our confidence in the UK electric vehicle market.
“The UK is electrifying quickly, but to keep up with demand the charging network must expand at the same pace. There is a clear need for more reliable, ultra-fast charging infrastructure, particularly along motorways and around the capital.
“We believe that the new Government will make the right policy decisions to help this market grow. With a supportive and stable policy and investment environment, the EV charging sector can deliver a significant economic growth opportunity for the UK while providing the infrastructure increasingly needed by drivers and businesses.
“This investment marks a major step forward for Allego. It will give us the scale to compete in the top tier of the UK charging market and bring our experience of operating across Europe to many more British drivers.”
Alongside its investment programme, Allego is seeking partnerships with retailers, hospitality businesses, commercial property owners and landowners that can host new ultra-fast charging hubs at strategically located sites.
The company already operates successful partnerships across mainland Europe, including with IKEA in Belgium, REWE in Germany and Burger King in France. These collaborations combine charging infrastructure with joint marketing initiatives and customer offers designed to increase footfall, extend dwell times and generate additional commercial value for host businesses.
Unlike some charging operators, Allego fully finances, builds, owns and operates its charging infrastructure. Under its business model, landowners receive a long-term lease payment while avoiding the capital expenditure and operational responsibilities associated with installing and maintaining EV charging equipment.
Salo added: “Retailers, hospitality businesses and landowners have an important role to play in the next phase of the UK’s charging rollout.
“Our model removes the cost and operational burden associated with installing charging infrastructure. At the same time, it can attract new customers, enhance the experience for existing visitors and provide our partners with a long-term revenue opportunity.
“We are looking for ambitious partners with high-quality sites who want to join us in building the next generation of the UK’s ultra-fast charging network.”
The announcement comes as the UK continues to expand its public charging infrastructure to support growing electric vehicle adoption. Government targets and increasing fleet electrification have accelerated demand for high-powered charging, particularly on the strategic road network where rapid charging is essential for long-distance travel and commercial vehicle operations.
With investment from both public and private sectors continuing to rise, Allego’s €100 million commitment represents one of the most significant recent investments in the UK’s public charging infrastructure and highlights growing confidence in the country’s long-term EV market.
