HIRE: Would you hire just for winter?

Motorists should consider hiring a vehicle during the winter months rather than driving their own, Europcar have claimed.

With the heavy rain and flooding of recent weeks subsiding for colder conditions, the company insist safety-conscious drivers should be thinking of hiring.

Europcar claim that almost-new, fully-maintained vehicles with round-the-clock roadside assistance could ‘provide vital confidence when driving in difficult weather conditions’.

Ken McCall, Managing Director of Europcar UK Group, said: “Recent data has identified that the average age of cars on UK roads is now over seven years old.

“Of course, many of these vehicles will be well maintained, but with the financial pressures of the last few years, it could be that some of the basics have been sacrificed and when the weather turns this could be a worry for some drivers.

“That’s why we recommend leaving the family car at home in difficult weather conditions and hiring instead.

“Not only does hiring give drivers access to vehicles maintained to manufacturer standards – but those vehicles are being checked every time they come back in from a customer.

“That’s probably a higher level of care and maintenance than anyone would give to the car they’re driving every day of the week.”
