POWERFUL: New Vauxhall Astra VXR Extreme

Vauxhall have unveiled their most powerful front-wheel-drive car ever – the new 300PS Astra VXR Extreme – ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut next month.

The 2.0litre vehicle, derived from the Astra Cup race car which competed in last year’s Nurburgring Endurance Championship, is the 100kg-lighter street-legal sibling to the current Astra VXR.

Weight loss is achieved thanks to carbon fibre components, which are used for the optimised rear wing, diffuser, front spoiler, bonnet, suspension cross-bracing, engine cover, wheels, rear wheelhouse ventilation and roof.

The Extreme also boasts a Brembo six-piston brake system, race-ready 245/35 19inch tyres and adjustable damper.

It offers a safety roll bar in place of rear seats, Recaro bucket seats, six-point Schroth safety belts and a carbon-fibre reinforced, suede-covered steering wheel.

The Astra VXR Extreme will likely undergo a small production run in the near future, with the release marking ten years of the VXR brand.
