FIVE: Mazda6 bags top NCAP marks
The Toyota Corolla, Lexus IS 300h and Mazda6 are now officially among the safest of vehicles after bagging five-star Euro NCAP ratings.
In the latest tests, the Vauxhall Adam and Mitsubishi Mirage superminis picked up four-star ratings.
Lexus’ IS 300h sports saloon scored 91% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 80% for pedestrian protection and 66% for safety assist performance.
Their score in the pedestrian protection category is the best score ever recorded among all the large family cars Euro NCAP have tested.
Meanwhile, the all-new Mazda6 scored 92% for adult occupant protection, 77% for child occupant protection, 66% for pedestrian protection and 81% for safety assist performance.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda UK, said: “While the all-new Mazda6 is more powerful and more fuel efficient than ever before, thanks to its SKYACTIV technology, it is also lighter and stronger, featuring ultra-high tensile steel and other innovations which reinforce the body’s structures and its passive safety performance.
“This is underpinned by our range of driver-supporting active safety technology which helps prevent accidents in the first place and reduce their severity should one be unavoidable.”
