SPEED: New Octavia will be fastest ever

The new Octavia will be the fastest ever on general release, ŠKODA have announced

ŠKODA  say the new third generation model ‘creates a strong impression with its powerful and efficient engines, racy design and innovative technology’.

It will be released in the UK at the start of July, debuting at next month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Professor Winfried Vahland, CEO of ŠKODA, said: “The new ŠKODA Octavia vRS is in a sports league of its own.

“Our latest model stands for horsepower and fuel efficiency and, at the same time, for emotion and rationality.

“Never before has an Octavia vRS been so fast and dynamic and yet so spacious, convenient, safe and comfortable as the third generation of our compact sports car.

“In this perfect combination, the new Octavia vRS and Octavia estate vRS set new standards in the sporty compact class and also takes the brand’s sporty genes with it on the road.

“A perfect car for free time and everyday use, maximum power, the latest technology and great value for money.”

The new Octavia accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 6.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 154mph with its manual six-speed gearbox.

Customers can choose from diesel or petrol engines – both more powerful and fuel-efficient than the second generation Octavia – and sports suspension is fitted as standard.

It also includes progressive steering, for better handling, new light-alloy wheels and ‘sporty black’ leather interior.

ŠKODA say the new Octavia will offer ‘space like no other’ with more interior length, legroom and headroom in the back than any other compact sports car.

It also offers a host of ‘Simply Clever’ features, such as an ice scraper, high-visibility jacket, litter containers, multimedia holders and storage compartments.

Safety features include the Front Assistant, with emergency city braking, Lane Assistant, Automatic Post Collision Braking System and Driver Fatigue Sensor.

The vehicle is also fitted with Adaptive Cruise Assistant, which keeps a set distance from the car ahead, and an Intelligent Light Assistant, which automatically switches long-beam lights on and off.

There is also a completely new generation of infotainment radio and navigation systems.

ŠKODA sold around 939,200 vehicles to customers worldwide last year – up 6.8% on 2011 and a new record for the VW Group company.
