MARATHON: Parcelforce covered 139,500miles
Parcelforce Worldwide marked Friday’s summer solstice by having their UK fleet of Mercedes-Benz Sprinters cover a total of 139,500 miles in just ONE SHIFT.
The UK’s longest annual day saw almost 17hours of light, with the Parcelforce fleet covering an average of 11,625miles every hour during a 6am-6pm shift.
Commenting on Parcelforce, a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson said: “The Sprinter fleet is subjected to often tough road conditions and even tougher weather.
“Yet through the combination of the most extensive testing imaginable and the 24-hour support of a dedicated retailer network, the Sprinter can cope.”
Parcelforce operate from 53 depots nationwide, and ensure routine servicing takes place at night, to allow their Sprinter vans to keep operating during daylight hours.
This is made possible by 24-hour servicing, an option available to any Mercedes-Benz van operator.
The service allows customers to drop their vehicle off at their local retailer in the evening, ready to be collected early the following morning, serviced and cleaned.
“During the development process of the new Sprinter, due in the UK in September, prototypes covered over five million miles ensuring not only mechanical durability but that the driver is comfortable, the controls are robust and intuitive and the load space can be efficiently accessed,” a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson added.
