PLAGUE: Robberies sweeping Derbyshire

Police in Derbyshire are warning motorists of a crime plague sweeping the county, with Land Rovers in particular danger of being targeted by thieves.

Between November 2013 and January 2014, an unusually high total of 12 Land Rovers were stolen in Derbyshire – prompting the police to step up attempts to combat the crime.

Stolen vehicle recovery solutions providers Tracker are urging all car owners to be extra vigilant and focus on the security of their vehicle.

Adrian Davenport, Police Liaison Officer at Tracker, said: “Land Rovers and 4×4 are always popular vehicles, but especially in the wake of recent floods and bad, winter weather, making them a hot prospect for thieves.

“We have already recovered a record 38 4×4 vehicles that have been stolen over the last two months.

“However, we encourage all vehicle owners to ensure they make it difficult for thieves, by taking precautions and investing in the right security measures.”
