Durite, a leading supplier of vehicle safety, lighting, and auto electrical components, will debut its new AI Low Bridge Detection System at the RTX show in Stoneleigh, running from 24th to 26th June 2025.
The cutting-edge system leverages AI-powered camera technology to detect over-height vehicles and identify low bridges and overhead hazard signage. It combines high-accuracy 10Hz GPS and a comprehensive UK low bridge database to deliver precise, location-specific alerts to drivers.
By integrating the vehicle’s trailer and cargo height data, the system calculates real-time risk and sends advance warnings to the driver via Durite’s in-cab R-Watch Display—providing sufficient notice to reroute and avoid costly collisions.
The new solution is fully compatible with Durite’s existing range of vehicle safety camera equipment.
“In the UK, heavy goods vehicle (HGV) bridge strikes are a significant problem,” said John Nobbs, UK Sales Manager for Durite. “They cause delays, disruptions and potentially high cost to the operator and the rail and road networks.”
According to Network Rail, the UK sees over 1,532 bridge strikes annually—around one every six hours—costing the rail industry more than £20 million per year.
“With up to five bridge strikes recorded each day in the UK, Durite recognised the need to produce an advanced detection system which can significantly reduce the risk of collision for commercial vehicle operators,” Nobbs continued. “Our new AI Low Bridge Detection System aims to achieve this by using a combination of market-proven technology.”
Unlike GPS-only systems—which often struggle in rural areas or dense urban environments due to signal interference—the Durite system harnesses both AI and GPS to ensure maximum accuracy and reliability.
