UNVEIL: Kia Soul EV revealed
Kia have unveiled their first mass-market electric vehicle, the Soul EV.
Set for UK sale later this year, the car – which was launched at the Chicago Auto Show – offers a range of 80-100miles.
It is powered by a 27kWh, air-cooled, 200watt-hour/kg battery, and uses Kia’s third-generation regenerative braking system to capture up to 12% of the car’s kinetic energy.
Recharging times vary from 24hours for a fully-depleted battery using a standard 120volt outlet and under five hours when plugged into a 240volt outlet.
An 80% charge can be achieved in 33minutes with a 50kW output charger, while the vehicle can accelerate from 0-60mph in 12seconds.
The front-wheel drive Soul EV is powered by an 81.4 kW, 109hp electric motor, producing a 210lb/ft of torque.
