INNOVATION: Device will be valuable to fleets

Car and van fleet operators are being encouraged to capture and take advantage of highly-accurate fuel consumption data using a new monitoring tool from Ctrack.

‘Fuel Reader’ will provide businesses with added insight into the performance of their vehicles, as Ctrack aim to help fleets manage fuel-related costs.

The device plugs directly into the OBD II port to read data from the engine control unit and effectively calculate fuel usage, carbon emissions and RPM.

This information is then communicated via Bluetooth to the Ctrack tracking unit, so fleet operators can have real-time and historical access through their existing fleet management platform.

“It is essential that car and light commercial vehicle operators have complete understanding of consumption along with associated carbon emissions.”

Fleet operators will also be able to undertake vehicle health monitoring by accessing engine diagnostic messages, enabling proactive maintenance scheduling and immediate notification of any issues.

This will allow rapid reaction to problems to maximise the technical condition of vehicles, avoid any additional damage and protect drivers by improving vehicle safety.

John Wisdom, Managing Director of Ctrack, said: “With fuel typically accounting for more than a quarter of all fleet operating costs, it is essential that car and light commercial vehicle operators have complete understanding of consumption along with associated carbon emissions.

“Fuel Reader works alongside our existing tracking solutions to provide an integrated approach that delivers the necessary intelligence to help drive down overheads and operate more responsibly.”
