Volvo drivers can soon enjoy all the features familiar to Apple devices directly on their car’s touchscreen display, after the global giants confirmed a new partnership.
In a move to make Apple’s operating system available to drivers, the innovation – which promises to ‘transform’ the in-car experience – is called Apple Car Play.
Volvo will link devices to a specially-developed interface sporting well-known icons for Apple applications and allowing drivers to use voice and steering wheel controls to access features and services.
“iPhone users will feel completely at home in a new Volvo…a perfect match.”
Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo
With Apple CarPlay, users will immediately recognise their basic iPhone applications, such as phone, messages, music and navigation.
The initial offer, which will debut on this year’s all-new XC90, also features third-party audio apps including music streaming service Spotify.
Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars, said: “iPhone users will feel completely at home in a new Volvo.
“We have created a wholly-integrated user experience in our large portrait-oriented touch screen that takes the in-car mobile device experience to a new level.
“That, coupled with the obvious driver safety benefits of an advanced voice control system like Siri, made Apple a perfect match for Volvo.”
