BCA opens UK's first dedicated EV Battery Repair Centre for vehicle remarketing

BCA opens new Battery Repair Centre at Doncaster site

BCA has strengthened its electric vehicle remarketing capabilities with the launch of a dedicated Battery Repair Centre at its Doncaster site, becoming the first facility of its kind to serve the vehicle remarketing sector.

Operated by BCA Fleet Solutions, the new centre has been established to repair high-voltage batteries in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids entering the remarketing process after manufacturer warranties have expired or been invalidated. The move reflects the growing importance of battery diagnostics and repair as increasing numbers of used EVs enter the wholesale market.

Rather than replacing complete battery packs, the centre focuses on diagnosing faults and repairing individual components where possible, helping to reduce repair costs, minimise vehicle downtime and support more sustainable vehicle lifecycle management.

The facility offers a comprehensive range of services for all major vehicle manufacturers, including battery diagnostics, insulation testing, module repair and replacement, battery casing repairs, drive motor replacement, cell balancing, DC charger and inverter repairs, high-voltage component replacement and the supply of recycled ‘green’ parts where available.

All work is completed to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards, enabling electric and hybrid vehicles to be repaired quickly and prepared for resale in the best possible condition.

The new Doncaster facility complements BCA’s existing battery repair operation at the Renault Import Centre in Portbury, where the company provides traction battery maintenance services on behalf of Renault UK.

Growing support for the used EV market

As the UK’s used electric vehicle market continues to expand, accurate battery health assessment has become increasingly important for buyers and sellers alike.

BCA has invested heavily in this area, launching its EV Battery Report service in partnership with battery diagnostics specialist AVILOO in late 2024. The service grades battery health from A to E, giving buyers greater confidence when purchasing used electric vehicles.

According to BCA, the battery grading system has helped improve sale conversion rates, increase average selling values and reduce the time taken to sell both electric passenger cars and electric light commercial vehicles.

The company’s EV/Hybrid Assured Report also evaluates charging performance, the condition of the charging port and the availability of charging cables, providing trade buyers with a more complete picture of each vehicle before purchase.

Strong demand for used electric vehicles

Electric vehicles continue to be one of the strongest-performing segments in the wholesale market, with demand and residual values remaining robust.

BCA now sells more than 1,000 electric vehicles every week through its online auctions, which operate daily, including weekends.

Among the best-selling models are the Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-PACE, MINI Electric, Kia e-Niro and Nissan Leaf, with consistent buyer demand across vehicles of varying ages and mileages.

Supporting a circular economy

Paul Bromley, Managing Director of BCA Fleet Solutions, said the new Battery Repair Centre would provide customers with a cost-effective alternative to full battery replacement.

“The new BCA Battery Repair Centre provides a one-stop solution for electric vehicle repairs for our customers. Rather than simply replacing expensive batteries, we investigate the cause and repair or replace components, delivering a cost-effective and timely solution that means EVs and hybrid vehicles can be repaired and offered for sale without undue delay. This helps to foster a circular economy, driving ESG goals and ensuring these vehicles reach the market in the best possible condition to attract buyers.”

Looking ahead, Bromley said BCA would continue investing in services that support the transition to electrification.

“BCA continues to lead the remarketing sector in adapting to the changing needs of the automotive industry as it moves towards widespread electrification and the rising volume of software-defined vehicles.”

The launch of the Battery Repair Centre marks another significant step in the evolution of the UK’s used EV market, providing remarketing customers with specialist battery repair expertise while supporting vehicle values, sustainability objectives and buyer confidence.
