POWER: New engine for Astra GTC

Vauxhall are adding a new 200PS 1.6litre direct injection petrol engine to the Astra GTC range.

Priced from £20,995, the release becomes the most powerful non-VXR Astra available, offering a top speed of 143mph and a 0-60mph time of 7.3seconds.

Peak power and torque are increased by up to 30% over the previous 1.6litre turbo model, with fuel consumption bumped up by 13% to 51mpg.

The new engine is also the only unit in its class to feature twin balancer shafts for smooth running.

Vauxhall have also introduced their Intellilink infotainment system, priced from £855, to the range, featuring satellite navigation, voice control, Bluetooth, picture viewer and Gracenote album art.

The top-of-the-range Navi 950 IntelliLink contains Europe-wide street level mapping, with drivers also able to have incoming text messages read out to them.

Stuart Harris, Head of Carline Brand at Vauxhall, said: “We’ve strengthened our Astra GTC offering with a strong and powerful 1.6litre petrol engine and the cutting-edge Intellilink infotainment system.

“Vauxhall is really throwing down the gauntlet to UK coupe sector rivals with these enhancements to our Astra GTC range.”

Astra GTCs with the new engine and Intellilink are available to order now with first deliveries expected in the spring.
