UK’s first IVECO S-eWay Rigid joins Pall-Ex fleet
Pall-Ex Logistics has taken delivery of the UK’s first right-hand drive IVECO S-eWay Rigid, adding a zero-emission heavy truck to its palletised freight distribution operation.
The 28-tonne electric truck will support Pall-Ex with freight and delivery services across the UK. Its arrival marks another step in the company’s move towards lower-emission logistics and provides a practical solution for urban and regional distribution.
The IVECO S-eWay Rigid (AS290S Y/FS BEV ON+) features an Active Sleeper cab and a 5,700mm wheelbase. Seven modular battery packs provide a total capacity of 490kWh, giving the truck a range of up to 400km on a single charge.

Rapid charging also supports the vehicle’s operational flexibility. The S-eWay can accept charging at up to 350kW, allowing operators to add up to 200km of range in around 45 minutes.
For a pallet distribution operation, reducing charging downtime remains important. The combination of a substantial battery capacity and rapid charging capability allows Pall-Ex to plan electric vehicle use around demanding delivery schedules.
Electric truck designed for urban freight
The S-eWay Rigid uses a 6×2 configuration with rear steering. This improves manoeuvrability and handling, particularly when operating on busy urban streets and in confined delivery locations.
Pall-Ex has specified the truck with a Bevans Curtainside body and Cantilever tail lift. The combination provides a practical loading solution for palletised freight while retaining the flexibility required for multi-drop distribution work.
Roof-mounted solar panels provide an additional source of renewable energy. While they cannot replace the truck’s main charging system, they can help support the vehicle’s electrical systems and further reduce its energy requirements.
At the heart of the IVECO S-eWay sits a dual-motor electric eAxle developed by FPT. The system delivers 480kW of continuous power and 1,800Nm of torque.
IVECO has designed the eAxle to remain compact, helping preserve available cargo space while also supporting a quieter and smoother driving experience. This should prove particularly useful for freight operators working in urban environments, where vehicle refinement and manoeuvrability can affect day-to-day operations.
The S-eWay’s modular battery architecture also gives operators greater flexibility when specifying vehicles for different applications. Depending on the required range and payload, customers can choose configurations with four, five or seven battery packs.
Pall-Ex has opted for the seven-battery configuration, prioritising maximum range for its UK-wide freight operation.
Driver-focused electric HGV
The S-eWay also focuses on the driver experience, with IVECO describing the cab as a spacious and ergonomic working environment.
A customisable digital instrument cluster provides key vehicle information while allowing drivers to configure the display around their requirements. This can help reduce the amount of information competing for attention during long periods behind the wheel.
A 10-inch infotainment system adds further functionality, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa among its features.
The cab also provides an Active Sleeper configuration, giving the vehicle greater versatility for drivers who spend extended periods operating the truck.
Connectivity forms another part of the S-eWay package. IVECO ON provides access to telematics and vehicle information, allowing operators to monitor areas such as vehicle health and energy consumption.
Each IVECO S-eWay comes with five years of connectivity as standard. For fleet managers, access to this data can help track electric truck performance and identify opportunities to improve vehicle utilisation and energy efficiency.
As electric HGV adoption grows, these digital tools are becoming increasingly important. Operators need more than just a suitable vehicle; they also need visibility of charging, energy use and vehicle performance to integrate electric trucks effectively into their fleets.
Pall-Ex targets sustainable freight
For Pall-Ex, the S-eWay forms part of its wider focus on sustainable express freight and logistics.
Paul Pegg, Managing Director at Pall-Ex Logistics, said: “We are proud to be the first in the country to take delivery of an IVECO S-eWay Rigid, marking another important step in our commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable express freight and logistics.
“The truck is ideally suited to inner-city deliveries, as it’s nimble enough to handle tight areas with ease, and zero tailpipe emissions allow us to operate in areas where traditional HGVs may face restrictions.”
The ability to operate without tailpipe emissions could become increasingly valuable as towns and cities introduce tighter restrictions on vehicle emissions and access.
For pallet networks, which often serve multiple delivery locations from regional hubs, electric HGVs could offer a way to maintain delivery capacity while reducing local emissions.
The S-eWay’s 400km claimed range also gives Pall-Ex scope to use the vehicle beyond purely urban routes. Its rapid charging capability could support additional flexibility when vehicles need to cover longer distances or complete intensive delivery schedules.
IVECO sees electric HGV potential
Duncan Nurse, Business Line Director Truck at IVECO UK, said: “The IVECO S-eWay rigid is triumph of quality, design, and engineering. This truck delivers on operational capability without compromise, making the ideal platform for those looking for a zero-emissions heavy truck solution.”
The arrival of the first right-hand drive IVECO S-eWay Rigid in the UK gives Pall-Ex an opportunity to assess electric HGV performance in a demanding real-world distribution environment.
Its combination of battery capacity, rapid charging, rear steering and a dedicated curtainside body makes it suited to the stop-start nature of palletised freight.
The move also highlights the increasing range of zero-emission options available to UK fleet operators. As charging infrastructure improves and manufacturers introduce more electric heavy trucks, operators can begin matching vehicle specifications more closely to individual routes and operational requirements.
For Pall-Ex, the new IVECO S-eWay represents both an investment in zero-emission freight and a practical test of how electric heavy trucks can support pallet distribution at scale.
