Alexander Dennis delivers first Enviro100EV

In a significant advancement for sustainable public transport, Alexander Dennis has introduced the Enviro100EV, a compact yet powerful electric bus tailored to meet the unique needs of independent operators. This development marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of eco-friendly transportation solutions.

The Enviro100EV is meticulously designed to navigate the tightest of urban and rural routes. With a length of 8.5 metres and a width of 2.35 metres, this bus adeptly handles narrow streets and confined spaces that are often challenging for larger vehicles. Despite its compact size, the Enviro100EV does not compromise on quality or comfort, offering the same engineering excellence and passenger experience as its larger counterparts.

Inside, the Enviro100EV is configured to accommodate 25 seated passengers, along with a dedicated wheelchair space accessible via the main entrance. This thoughtful design ensures inclusivity and comfort for all passengers, aligning with modern accessibility standards.

The Enviro100EV sets a new benchmark in energy efficiency. Certified by the Zemo Partnership, it achieves an impressive consumption rate of just 0.54 kWh per kilometre over the UK Bus Cycle, coupled with a remarkable 97% grid-to-wheel energy efficiency. Equipped with 354 kWh batteries, the Enviro100EV offers a class-leading range on a single charge, making it a practical choice for daily operations.

To support efficient fleet management, the Enviro100EV is equipped with AD Connect telematics. This system logs operational data, providing operators with valuable insights into vehicle performance through the AD24 platform. Such data-driven capabilities facilitate informed decision-making and proactive maintenance.

Shuttle Buses, Scotland’s only employee-owned bus company, has become the first independent operator to integrate the Enviro100EV into its fleet. Based in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Shuttle Buses operates a fleet of 55 buses and coaches. The addition of the Enviro100EV, part-funded by the Scottish Government’s Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB), underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

Ross Granger, Managing Director of Shuttle Buses, remarked, “The Enviro100EV is a great addition to our fleet as it gives us a small electric bus with a sensible range and operational flexibility. The expertise and experience that has gone into designing this bus is apparent, and initial feedback from our drivers shows that they enjoy the experience.”

Charlie Miller, Retail Sales Director for Alexander Dennis, said: “We’re proud to have been chosen to supply the first Enviro100EV for an independent operator to Shuttle Buses. This is a great investment from a respected operator. It’s been great to work with the team at Shuttle Buses again – this isn’t the first time they have ordered new products to market. To have their trust in us is fantastic and very much appreciated.”

The introduction of the Enviro100EV by Alexander Dennis represents a significant milestone in the advancement of zero-emission public transport. Its compact design, exceptional energy efficiency, and advanced telematics make it an ideal solution for independent operators seeking to enhance their services while reducing their environmental footprint. As more operators like Shuttle Buses adopt this innovative vehicle, the future of sustainable public transportation looks increasingly promising.
