Research by Nextbase, the UK’s leading and multi award-winning dash cam manufacturer, reveals almost one third (29%) of 18-25-year olds who had been involved in a car accident were either wrongly blamed or struggled to prove they weren’t at fault.

Younger motorists often feel flustered or panicked if involved in an incident, which can be worsened by more practised motorists taking advantage of the situation. As most young drivers are not experienced in how to deal with road accidents, it can leave them feeling vulnerable and potentially lead to them admitting fault ‘at the scene of the crime’, even if they’re the victim. In situations like this, dash cams act as an independent witness on the road, encouraging confidence in young drivers and helping prove innocence.

In light of this, and with the average fully comprehensive policy coming in at a staggering £1,116[1] for under 24 year-olds, Nextbase has partnered with MyFirstUK insurance to offer up to 30% off premiums to young drivers when a Nextbase 312GW dash cam has been fitted in the vehicle. Unlike having a black box, drivers aren’t curfewed or monitored, but given the freedom to drive with confidence. With the Nextbase research also showing 85% of those with a black box would happily opt for an alternative to save money, the MyFirst dash cam car insurance policy is a perfect alternative solution.

What’s more, when a dash cam is fitted in vehicles alongside a black box, findings show a staggering 67% improve their driving over a three-month period, compared to when just a black box was installed.

Richard Browning, Director at Nextbase, commented: “With research showing that a large proportion of young drivers are getting blamed for accidents that may have not been their fault, a dash cam can act as a witness to help prove innocence. Research shows that the older you get, the worse your reactions are, however younger drivers are still getting penalised with sky high car insurance costs. By unveiling this offer with MyFirst, we hope to give the younger generation a solution to keep safe on the roads and save money at the same time.”

James Noble, Managing Director of MyFirstUK, added: “As we specialise in car insurance for young drivers, we are really proud to be in partnership with Nextbase to provide such a unique deal. Our focus is to offer quality car insurance for young drivers at an affordable price, as we believe it’s important to give this age group a chance to grab a great deal, but also feel confident on the roads – which the dash cams can help to do.”
