SPY: Fleets to enjoy better driver assessment
MiX Telematics are letting fleet operators assess their drivers’ abilities for themselves with a new highly-configurable video recording system.
MiX Vision – which integrates with Mix Telematics’ flagship fleet management solution – captures driver and road simultaneously when triggered by events such as harsh braking, over-speeding or a collision.
This means fleet operators can reduce costs by assessing how well their employees are driving, bust false claims or use footage for training purposes.
Charles Tasker, Head of Fleet Solutions at MiX Telematics, said: “With this powerful solution, video footage of the driver and his view of the road are captured simultaneously, thereby enabling fleet managers to assess the circumstances at the time of an actual or reported incident.
“MiX Vision places operators at the scene and will prove invaluable for fleet operators who want to enhance driver behaviour, improve safety and reduce costs relating to false claims.”
The solution consists of a tamper-resistant camera unit that is attached to the inside of the vehicle’s windscreen and houses a road-facing and a driver-facing camera.
This integrates with the FM Communicator so that when an event occurs – such as harsh braking, over-speeding or a collision – the system is triggered.
Two 15-second low-resolution video clips are instantaneously automatically uploaded, one showing the driver and one showing the road.
Fleet managers can access all footage at the end of each completed trip, with high-resolution versions of the clips available at the touch of button.
Customers can also choose to download segments of high-resolution video clips recorded on a 72-hour rolling buffer.
“Notably, the event triggers are highly configurable, which means that our customers have the freedom to predetermine any driving event for which they would like to record video footage,” added Mr Tasker.
