GUIDE: Handbook ‘indispensable’ to drivers

An updated edition of the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA) Drivers’ Handbook is now available.

The handbook – dubbed as an ‘indispensable guide for professional truck drivers’ – now contains fresh information on current legislation, PCNs, load security, roadside checks and driver conduct.

Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Bridgestone Tyres, the book, written by FTA specialists, also contains new information regarding best practice, reversing, urban driving, coupling and weather.

It will continue to host sections on matters such as legal compliance, advice on accident management, breakdowns and vehicle theft, and fatigue, health and safety.

First published in the 1960s, the Drivers’ Handbook is, according to the FTA, an ‘invaluable work of reference worthy of a place in every vehicle cab’.

An FTA spokesperson said: “With the increasing volume of vehicles on the road and regulations that need to be observed making life more and more difficult for the professional driver, the aim of the handbook is to help drivers do their job safely and responsibly.

“It is not intended to be an exhaustive guide to road transport law but aims to cut through the legal jargon in the areas that most affect the driver’s work.”

The FTA Drivers’ Handbook is available from Shopfta at £6.75 per copy for FTA members and £8 for non-members.
Substantial discounts are available for multiple purchases, and book covers can be personalised with company branding for bulk orders.
