Jason Cross, Managing Director of FAB Recycling Ltd, joined the RAF aged 17.
His first non-military role was delivering tyres, rising quickly through the ranks to become a manager.
That was followed by a stint for a rival firm, and then as regional sales representative for a bearings distributor.
In 1995, keen to provide for his growing family and tired of lack of opportunities, he took a commission-only job at Foreign Auto Breakers (FAB), turning the business around and launching in 1998 its online parts service FAB Direct.
He was rewarded with 75% of the business.
In 2006 he came up with My Green Fleet and now works with 40 police forces, saving them £1.6million to date.
In 2012 he bought the remaining 25% of the company.
His most recent venture, FAB Bundle, is an online auction site for the trade to buy and sell ‘bundles’ of vehicle parts.
FAB Recycling Ltd employ 30 staff and have a turnover of almost £2million.
The 20-year-old business grew by 42% in 2012 and is forecast to grow by 25% in 2013/4.
