BP Chargemaster unveils new 150kW ultra-fast charger

BP Chargemaster’s new 150kW ultra-fast charger has been unveiled at the Fully Charged LIVE event at Silverstone, and will soon start to appear across Polar, the UK’s largest public charging network, allowing the latest electric vehicles to charge at their maximum speed.

The Ultracharge 150 is the first 150kW ultra-fast charger ever made in the UK and is expected to deliver around 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Tufan Erginbilgic, chief executive of Downstream BP, recently confirmed that 400 of the new 150kW ultra-fast chargers are planned for installation on BP forecourts across the UK by the end of 2021, with around 100 units appearing on 50 sites by the end of 2019.

The Ultracharge 150 features both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, and an intuitive and attractive interface, making it as easy as possible to use. The units will be accessible to both pay-as-you-go and subscription customers.

As BP Chargemaster will also continue with its nationwide rollout programme for 50kW rapid chargers, which also offer 43kW AC rapid charging, all rapid charge-capable electric vehicles will be able to charge at their fastest rates on the Polar network.

David Martell, chief executive of BP Chargemaster, said: “We are very proud to be bringing this new 150kW ultra-fast charger to market, which will be available on the Polar network within the coming months. We shifted consumer expectations for rapid charging with the introduction of our 50kW Ultracharge unit and we are confident that the Ultracharge 150 unit will do the same for 150kW ultra-fast charging.”

The ultra-fast chargers will be installed with investment from BP Chargemaster, which has the largest public charging in the country, operating over 400 rapid chargers and a total of more than 7,000 charging points available for electric vehicle drivers nationwide.
