BYD unveils 1,000hp ETT 44 electric truck with 600km range
BYD Commercial Vehicles has unveiled its most advanced European product line-up to date at IAA Transportation 2026, highlighting an expanding range of electric solutions for applications ranging from urban distribution and municipal operations to regional and long-haul logistics.

At the centre of the showcase is the new BYD ETT 44, a flagship heavy-duty 4×2 electric tractor designed to demonstrate the company’s ambitions for long-haul zero-emission transport.
BYD says the ETT 44 delivers more than 1,000hp and up to 600km of range, positioning it as a potential replacement for diesel trucks across a broad range of long-distance operations.
The truck is built around BYD’s vertically integrated approach, combining proprietary vehicle technologies with its Blade Battery technology, ultra-fast charging, energy storage, intelligent energy management and financial services.
The company says its aim is to provide fleet operators with a single integrated ecosystem covering vehicles, energy and charging infrastructure, rather than simply supplying an electric truck.
1.5MW charging targets reduced downtime
A key element of BYD’s strategy is its FLASH Charging technology, which can deliver up to 1.5MW of charging power.
The company says the system can recharge a truck from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes, providing up to 400km of additional range.
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, said: “We have already put FLASH Charging into practice in passenger vehicles. Today, we are bringing this technology to commercial vehicles starting with our trucks. With 1.5 megawatts of charging power, it can charge from 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes – delivering up to 400 kilometres of range. Less time charging. More time on the road.”
She added: “Greater efficiency for every vehicle. From batteries and solar power to energy storage, FLASH Charging and commercial vehicles. We provide a one-stop Solution for Sustainable commercial transport. One company. One ecosystem. One total energy solution.”
For commercial fleets, charging speed is becoming an increasingly important consideration as operators assess whether electric trucks can meet demanding utilisation schedules.
BYD’s approach is intended to address not only vehicle range, but also the charging infrastructure and energy management requirements associated with large-scale fleet electrification.

ETT 44 flagship targets long-haul fleets
The ETT 44 has been developed as a purpose-built electric platform, combining high performance with rapid charging, advanced battery technology and driver-focused safety and ergonomics.
BYD says the truck produces more than 1,000hp, offers up to 600km of range and can gain more than 400km of range during a 20-minute FLASH Charging session.
The ETT 44 is also claimed to have achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating and features advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Beyond its technical specification, BYD says the ETT 44 introduces a new design direction for its commercial vehicle range.
Its styling, proportions and visual identity are intended to combine the practical requirements of a heavy-duty truck with a more distinctive and modern appearance.
The company says the design reflects the same principles underpinning its wider technology strategy: integration, efficiency, innovation and a focus on future transport requirements.
BYD expands electric commercial vehicle range
The ETT 44 is being introduced alongside a broader range of electric commercial vehicles designed for different fleet applications.
The portfolio includes the T020 and T028 rigid trucks for regional distribution and specialist applications, as well as vocational vehicles designed for last-mile delivery, sanitation and municipal operations.
BYD is also highlighting electric yard tractors, a segment it identifies as particularly well suited to electrification because of the predictable operating patterns and relatively controlled environments in which these vehicles typically work.
Together, the vehicles form part of BYD’s strategy to provide a common technology and energy ecosystem across multiple commercial vehicle applications.
The company’s vertically integrated model extends beyond vehicle production to battery technology, charging infrastructure, energy storage and energy management.

Total Cost of Mobility
BYD is also promoting its Total Cost of Mobility (TCM) philosophy, which expands the traditional total cost of ownership (TCO) approach.
The company says TCM is intended to help fleet operators consider the complete cost and operational impact of electrification, including vehicle efficiency, charging performance, energy procurement, infrastructure utilisation and lifecycle management.
For fleet managers, this broader approach reflects the increasing complexity of moving from diesel to electric commercial vehicles.
The cost of the vehicle itself is only one part of the transition, with charging capacity, electricity supply, energy management, vehicle utilisation and operational uptime all potentially affecting the business case.
BYD believes integrating these elements can reduce operational complexity while helping fleets maximise uptime and move towards profitable electrification.
With the ETT 44 flagship joining its expanding commercial vehicle portfolio, BYD says it is strengthening its commitment to becoming a major partner for sustainable commercial transport in Europe.
The company has also established dedicated sales and technical teams focused exclusively on commercial vehicle applications as it expands its presence in the European market.
