Have your voice! Help shape the future of logistics skills

The logistics industry knows what skills it needs. Now is the time to make sure those needs are heard.

As the UK looks to reform its apprenticeship and skills system, there is an important opportunity for the logistics and transport sector to help shape what comes next.

Samantha Leleu, Chair of the AELP Logistics & Transport Sector Forum, is calling on employers, fleet operators and industry professionals across the sector to have their say as part of research informing a new logistics skills white paper.

At the heart of this work is a simple question: What if businesses could access shorter, more flexible training that delivers the specific skills their workforce needs, without committing to a full apprenticeship?

Proposals for new Apprenticeship Units, lasting between 1 and 16 weeks and developed from existing apprenticeship standards, could provide a real opportunity to address skills gaps more quickly and effectively.

From HGV and van operations to transport administration, forklift training and the transition to electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, we want to understand where shorter training pathways could make the biggest difference.

But rather than telling the industry what it needs, I want the industry to tell the Government!

Whether you’re a large national fleet operator, an SME, a transport manager or someone working directly within logistics, your experience and insight matter.

The findings will help inform a sector-led white paper, identifying the industry’s priorities and making practical recommendations for future skills policy and funding.

This is your opportunity to influence the conversation, highlight the challenges your business faces and help shape a skills system that works for logistics.
