Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’ revealed as van drivers favourite work sing-along
A new study of the habits and preferences of van drivers around the UK has revealed some interesting findings regarding the musical tastes of the tradesman.
The survey, compiled by the team at constructaquote.com polled a total of 1,839 adults aged 18 and over who are currently employed as a van or lorry driver within the United Kingdom. Prior to taking part in the survey, all respondents confirmed that they worked at least 30+ hours a week as a van driver in order to ensure the validity of results.
Participants were firstly asked if they regularly listened to music on the road in their jobs, with the vast majority (92%) admitting that they did. When asked how they usually listened to music while journeying, the radio (52%), CDs (23%) and MP3 players (19%) emerged as the most popular platforms for doing so.
Next, the van driving respondents who confessed they did like to sing along to songs were asked to reveal the songs they enjoy singing most while at work, and were able to list up to ten choices. After collecting the results, the top ten songs emerged as follows:
- Let It Go – Idina Mendzel (28%)
- Happy – Pharrell Williams (24%)
- Living On A Prayer – Bon Jovi (19%)
- Rolling In The Deep – Adele (15%)
- Don’t Stop Believing – Journey (13%)
- Beyonce – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) (10%)
- Starship – Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (8%)
- The Killers – Mr Brightside (8%)
- Meatloaf – Bat Out Of Hell (6%)
- Carly Rae Jepson – Call Me Maybe (4%)
The survey then asked these van drivers if they had even been caught singing in their van, for example, by other drivers while sitting at traffic lights. More than three quarters (78%) stated that they had been caught in the act.
When asked who was most commonly responsible for the music choices made while driving at work, just over a fifth (21%) admitted it was a co-worker, while 16% took it in turns and the majority (63%) stated that they choose music themselves. Of this 63%, over half (51%) revealed that they are heavily influenced by the music preferences of close friends and family when it comes to the songs they listen to at work – maybe explaining why a tune from Frozen came in at number 1!
