BREAK: Direct Line launch DrivePlus

Direct Line are taking their first major steps into telematics with the launch of their new DrivePlus product.

Available as an installed box – DrivePlus Installed – or a smartphone app, the product enables drivers to receive a premium based on their individual driving behaviour.

While DrivePlus Installed is currently only available to 17-20 year olds, the DrivePlus app is available to drivers of all ages in both Android and iOS formats.

The initiative – which has future scope to influence fleets – currently intends to provide motorists with an insurance premium discount, depending on how well they drive.

Paul Felton, Head of Telematics at Direct Line Car Insurance, said: “DrivePlus gives drivers the opportunity to reduce their premiums by demonstrating how well they can drive.

“For those higher risk groups, such as young drivers who tend to pay the most for car insurance, it’s a great way of paying only for how you drive, rather than how others do.”

Initially, those wishing to become a DrivePlus customer will receive a discount.

For the installed box, drivers receive 20% off, with a 10% discount for those downloading the DrivePlus app and driving 200miles prior to a Direct Line quote.

The DrivePlus app can be downloaded at www.directline.com/telematics.
