A Birmingham family have been enjoying a Center Parcs break courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors UK after winning a national prize draw.

The Cavendish-Tribes were entered for the Daily Mail contest after test-driving an ASX – Mitsubishi’s smart and efficient compact crossover – at Red Rose Mitsubishi in College Road, Birmingham. They were looking for a new vehicle after a traumatic year that saw husband and father Alan’s car written off in a crash.

Wife Sue said: ‘We were looking for something with a good safety record, economy and size. It also needed to tow a caravan, and the Outlander PHEV fitted the bill perfectly.’

She also had lots of praise for Red Rose Mitsubishi. ‘The after sales is second to none. They’ve been excellent, they’re really lovely,’ she said. ‘We’ve never had service like it. We’ve recommended Red Rose and the car to a number of friends, who have gone on to buy one.’

Mitsubishi’s game-changing Outlander PHEV, which uses both electric and petrol power, has swiftly become the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV. Mitsubishi Motors UK has sold more than 10,000 of them since its launch in April 2014.

‘It ticks all the boxes. Alan drives to Derby for work and he’s over the moon with it,’ said Sue. ‘He reckons he’s saving about 50 per cent on his fuel bill.’ And she said of winning the break: ‘To get an e-mail saying we had won the holiday was the icing on the cake for us after a really bad year.’

Alan, 54, who is a mechanical engineer, Sue, 49, and their children James, 15, and Emma, 13, are an active family and loaded their Outlander PHEV up with their bikes to travel to the Center Parcs Sherwood Forest resort in Nottinghamshire for a five-day break, taking their six-year-old cocker spaniel Misty with them too.

‘We had a lovely time. It was superb,’ said Sue. ‘We cycled and swam a lot and also “escaped” a couple of times to Sherwood Pines. Alan works abroad a lot, so it was really lovely to enjoy some family time.’

Gillian Hamer, Dealership Director at Red Rose Mitsubishi, said: ‘I’m so pleased that the Cavendish-Tribes had such a great time away. They are a lovely family and thoroughly deserved to win the holiday.’

The Outlander PHEV can travel 32½ miles in electric mode alone – more than enough to accommodate most daily average journey distances – and emits just 44g/km of CO2 as well as having an official combined fuel consumption figure of up to 148mpg and a combined range of 510 miles. The vehicle is exempt from vehicle tax plus the London congestion charge and qualifies for the Government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant and up to £8,000 of the Government’s Plug-in Van Grant.

For company car drivers, it attracts just five per cent taxable benefit in kind, giving them a virtual pay rise of thousands of pounds a year.

Last year, the Outlander PHEV won Diesel Car’s Best Alternative Fuel Vehicle award as well as Business Car’s Best Green Development gong in its Techie Awards, while in May this year it was named Best Ultra Low Emission Vehicle at the Fleet World Honours.

Meanwhile, the stunning ASX crossover has a choice of powerful yet efficient petrol and diesel engines. Available as a four-wheel drive, it offers impressive fuel economy but still packs plenty of pulling power and also boasts a five-star Euro-NCAP safety rating.
