A family-run Derbyshire car dealership is organising a sponsored walk with a difference in aid of a local hospice.

Gilder Mitsubishi Chesterfield is raising money for Ashgate Hospicecare, which provides a wide range of services for people with life-limiting illnesses in north Derbyshire.

More than 40 people have already signed up for the 118 Challenge on September 25th, which involves a four-mile walk, stopping off at six pubs in Chesterfield, dressed in the vests, shorts, wigs and moustaches made famous by the men from the 118 118 adverts.

Dave Littlewood, General Manager at the dealership in Tapton Lock, said: ‘Ashgate Hospice is a long-established and much-loved organisation in the Chesterfield area and we are always looking at ways we can help. I’ve been to the hospice and you can’t help but be inspired by the work they do. We’re delighted with the number of people who have already signed up and we’re hoping for even more.’

In keeping with the theme, staff at the dealership have set a fundraising target of £1,180 from the event. An independent registered charity covering north Derbyshire, Ashgate Hospicecare needs to raise £4.3 million each year from voluntary giving.

Alison Ward-Foster, Fundraising Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: ‘We are extremely grateful to Gilder Mitsubishi for organising this event, which I’m sure will be great fun while raising money at the same time.

‘Without the support of businesses like Gilder Mitsubishi we wouldn’t be able to provide the vital services that so many people depend on.’

The dealership has had an on-going relationship with Ashgate Hospicecare since 2014 and recently provided support for its Sparkle Night Walk.
