WELCOME: SMMT praise Joe Greenwell (c)

The Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have welcomed the appointment of Joe Greenwell as CEO of the newly-formed Automotive Investment Organisation.

Ex-Ford Chairman Mr Greenwell, in his new role, will be tasked with promoting the UK automotive industry on a global scale, striving to gain investment.

Mike Baunton, SMMT Interim Chief Executive, said: “SMMT welcomes the establishment of the Automotive Investment Organisation and the appointment of Joe Greenwell as its CEO.

“Joe is a man of great drive and experience across the industry who will take the message to global suppliers and manufacturers that the UK is a great place to do automotive business.

“Attracting inward investment by global Tier 1 suppliers and closing the £3bn sourcing gap in the UK is a strategic priority for the long-term success of domestic automotive manufacturing.

“SMMT will work closely with Joe and his team at the AIO to help make rapid progress in delivering this strategic goal over the next few years.”

Further details about the Automotive Investment Organisation and Joe Greenwell’s role are soon-to-be-announced.

The disclosure will come at SMMT’s International Automotive Summit, by Michael Fallon MP, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise.
